Threshold Training refers to the Overload Principle, a tectonic philosophy in Exercise Science and Exercise Prescription. This principle states that in order to progress physically, one must exercise at a level unknown to the body. New movements, extra repetitions or weight, adding balance and coordination, or time taken between sets and/or reps are just a few of the many ways to manipulate your exercise protocol. Not only do these adjustments push you forward, they make you stronger!
Just like a professional career or pursuing an educational degree, exercise accrues over time. Understanding what intervals to increase for intensity of movement helps progression in a safe, effective manner. Listening to your body, receiving professional advice, and being coached through exercise are just a few great ways to learn about how you can increase your threshold.
